Just because we aren’t likely to see snow in Tampa, Fl doesn’t mean your Audi won’t encounter any harsh environmental conditions. Maybe you plan to drive north to visit relatives or take advantage of snowy climates and activities. Or maybe you just know that when summer hits and the temperatures start kissing the triple-digits, you’ll need to take steps to keep your car running at peak performance.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when dealing with extreme weather conditions — hot or cold — to ensure your Audi is always performing at its highest levels.
1. Keep the battery charged. Cold weather can put a strain on your Audi’s battery, with heaters blasting, lights going, windshield wipers running, to name a few, all operating at the same time. And in the summer, it’s the same systems, just with the air conditioning instead of the heat. Running all these systems can put a strain on your battery, and could leave you stranded when you need it most. It is a good idea to have a certified Audi service and repair shop take a look at the health and condition of your battery at least once each season to ensure you won’t get any nasty surprises.
2.Know your tires. It doesn’t matter what kind of extreme conditions you might face, nothing is worse than having a tire blow out in the middle of bad weather. And Audi vehicles today, for the most part, do not come with spares in the trunk anymore. Instead, they come with a “Tyre Repair Kit” that will allow you to fix small punctures or leaks on the side of the road, allowing you to get your car to Auto Works Brandon for repairs without needing to call for a tow. The kit is very simple to use, but when you’re in the middle of the rain or snow, standing on the side of the highway, it might not be the best time to figure it out. Take the time to understand how the kit works before you need it, or stop by our shop and we would be more than happy to demonstrate it for you.
3.Check your fluids. It might seem like common sense to keep your various fluids such as your windshield cleaning fluid and coolant topped off. But just as important as how much is in the car is which kind you are using. If you plan to go north during the winter, you’ll want to ensure you have the right mix of antifreeze to ensure your fluids don’t ice up in the lines. And here in the Florida summers, you’ll want fluids designed to function well under high heat conditions.
4.Use the right sealant. Extreme weather can wreak havoc on a car’s paint and finish, as well as cause the metal in the undercarriage, wheels, etc. to wear away much faster than they should. It’s a good idea to ensure your car is not only cleaned on a regular basis, but is properly sealed and protected against the elements.
No matter what your travel plans, or what season you plan to drive through, you’ll want to make sure your Audi is at its best. These are just a few of the things you’ll want to check before heading into a new season. Worrying about your car should be the last thing on your mind when you encounter extreme weather, and taking the right precautions means you won’t have to.
